Mediate instead of judge

Increasingly, disputes, even in trivial matters, are being brought before the courts, where they are fought out to the last instance. This is not only time-consuming, but also often associated with high costs. There is a very good alternative to this: arbitration: It is quick, inexpensive and offers the chance to pacify the relationship between the parties involved for the future.

The arbitration board can be called upon in civil law disputes over property claims (such as neighbor and tenancy disputes) and non-property claims due to injury to personal honor (for example, claims for an apology for an insult, for the revocation of untrue statements or for an injunction against future actions).

The office is also responsible for "minor" criminal cases, such as trespassing, insult, assault and damage to property. There are two honorary arbitrators in the city of Jena. They do not pass judgment, but try to bring about an amicable settlement. Dr. Silke Henke was elected by the city council for the Jena South-West Arbitration Board and Marlene Mittenzwei for the Jena North-East Centre Arbitration Board.

To find out which arbitrator is responsible for you, please contact the Jena City Council, Legal Department, on 03641/49-2117.
