City of Jena adheres to qualified hygiene concepts for schools

05.05.2020

Decision is recognized

The City of Jena recognizes the provisional decision of the Gera Administrative Court against the wearing of face masks in school lessons. This provision of the general decree of the City of Jena dated 30.04.2020 will therefore not be enforced until further notice. In light of this decision, the city will revise its order, which is valid until 10.05.

Urgent recommendation remains in place

According to the guidelines of the state of Thuringia, it is still mandatory to wear face masks during school transportation, breaks and corridors. To protect against infection, the public health department nevertheless urgently recommends that face masks should also be worn in class. The city continues to believe that wearing a face mask can reduce the spread of aerosols in enclosed spaces.

Hygiene concepts remain important

Alternatively, there are other ways to achieve the goal of effective protection against infection. The city of Jena had already provided for stringent hygiene concepts as a further protective measure in the general decree of 30.04.2020. The city is therefore adhering to the creation of such specific concepts by the schools and the review by the public health department. Within a very short time, 25 of the 36 schools have already submitted a concept.
