Work on the Gembdenbach
From mid-December, Kommunalservice Jena will begin dismantling several structures on the banks of the Gembdenbach stream in the Erlenhöfe development area.
The plan is to demolish a wooden bridge and several steps that have been built without permission over the last few decades as part of gardening activities and are not considered safe for traffic. In addition, the bridge represents a drainage obstacle due to its far too small flow cross-section, where alluvial material can pile up in the event of increased water runoff. Furthermore, the illegally deposited green and tree cuttings, building rubble and residual waste will be removed. The embankment areas will then be restored and trees and shrubs typical of the site will be planted.
In this area, the Gembdenbach is classified as a largely near-natural watercourse. The aim of the planned measure is therefore also to improve this status. The removal of the plants will protect the existing woody vegetation and thus ensure the long-term stability of the embankments.
The measure will take at least 2 weeks. No tree felling is necessary. The work will be carried out without large equipment due to the space available. Only tools will be used as required.
