03.02.2022

Brochures and posters provide information about the census

From May to August 2022, the census - also known as the population census - will once again take place in Germany. The city of Jena is currently looking for interviewers to take part in the survey of households and residential homes. Posters on city buses and trains, banners in the MeinJena app and flyers and brochures are being used to provide information about the census.

Interviewers wanted: These tasks are on the agenda

Voluntary work as an interviewer for the 2022 census will last between four and twelve weeks and will start on 16.05.2022. Interviewers can largely schedule their interview times as they wish and receive an attractive allowance. All necessary knowledge will be imparted in advance in training courses planned for April. Interested citizens of legal age can register by calling 0049 3641 494488 or sending an e-mail to zensus2022.ehst@jena.de.

From the census date 15.05.2022 until mid-August 2022, the interviewers will visit the addresses and residential homes drawn in the sample and record the data of the people living there. The interviewees also receive access data for an additional online questionnaire. If necessary, the interviewers provide support in completing the questionnaires.

Written survey of property owners

A building and housing census is also carried out for the census. For this purpose, all private owners of apartments or buildings with living space are surveyed, as are commercially active multiple owners and managers as well as other persons authorized to dispose of and use buildings or apartments. This survey is carried out purely in writing and centrally by the State Statistical Office.

Information material on the census

Interested citizens can find out more about the census on the website. A PDF brochure and flyers can be downloaded from the website. Information material will also be available in the coming weeks at locations such as

  • at the Ernst Abbe Campus
  • on the campus of Jena University of Applied Sciences
  • at the Jena Tourist Information Office
  • in the district offices of the district mayors
  • in the service center of the Jena public transport system

Background

The Federal and State Statistical Offices use the census to determine how many people live in Germany and how they live and work. These statistical surveys generally take place every ten years. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the upcoming census has been postponed from 2021 to 2022. The local authority population registers provide the initial data for the sample on which the census is based. The result improves the database for many political decisions.
