Jena fire department continues to have few storm-related operations

20.02.2022

The Jena fire department has only had to respond to a few storm-related incidents in the past 24 hours. There have been a total of 20 since the gusts of wind began on Thursday evening.

Mainly branches, value boards and a tree had to be cleared. Nevertheless, the Paradiespark and Oberaue were cordoned off as a precaution on the morning of Saturday, February 19. There is a constant risk of falling branches. The municipal service will probably only be able to clear the paths completely on Tuesday once the winds have died down.

The water level of the Saale has reached the beginning of the reporting period, but according to the forecast it will not exceed reporting level 1. The flotsam that has accumulated on the bridges will also be removed in cooperation with the municipal service from Tuesday.

The picture is different in the surrounding districts. The fire department control center in Jena has coordinated 69 storm operations for the Saale-Holzland district since Thursday and 113 for the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district, where the responsible forestry offices will be busy clearing the forests for some time to come.

A stormy night at the beginning of the week and then strong gusts of wind on Monday afternoon are expected for the Jena area. The warning against falling branches and objects therefore continues to apply. We strongly advise against spending time in parks and especially in forests.
