Accommodation for refugees
By Sunday (6.3.2022), Jena had already taken in over 150 people from Ukraine.
Head of Social Affairs Eberhard Hertzsch says: "The city of Jena is making every effort to quickly become a welcoming place for the refugees. The civic commitment to providing accommodation is impressive."
In this context, Eberhard Hertzsch asks that any privately organized transportation of refugees be coordinated with the city in advance.
"Sufficient preparation time is needed for every accommodation. We are also checking the numerous private offers for placement,"
said Hertzsch. A minimum level of coordination is necessary in order to check on site which assistance could be available and when, and whether and which accommodation options are available. He also explained that the Free State of Thuringia had already requested support from the city in terms of accommodation and care on a larger scale.
Head of the crisis team Benjamin Koppe reported that there are already numerous voluntary initiatives and a high level of willingness to provide direct support to refugees.
"The experiences of the last few days have shown that the reception process for people arriving from Ukraine can be better organized through early interaction with the city. We want to be as well prepared as possible at all times,"
says Koppe. In addition to accommodation and food, medical care and follow-up processes also need to be considered.
Information about privately planned transports or arrivals of refugees should be reported promptly via neu@jena.de. Offers of accommodation can also continue to be reported via this address.
