25,000 euros for Ukrainian refugees in Jena

11.03.2022

JenaKultur and the Lions Club Jena e. V., together with the city of Jena and the Jena Philharmonic Orchestra, have drawn a positive interim balance of the joint benefit campaign.

One week after the benefit concerts of the Jena Philharmonic Orchestra organized by JenaKultur, the partners of the project are extremely satisfied with the result.

Lord Mayor Dr. Thomas Nitzsche:

"I would like to thank JenaKultur, the Jena Philharmonic Orchestra and the Lions Club Jena e. V. for sending this strong signal of our support for the people of Ukraine last week. I am still particularly impressed by the statement by Russian violinist Fedor Rudin, which clearly showed that many people in Russia also reject the Russian government's war in Ukraine."

Katharina Landefeld from the Jena Philharmonic Orchestra emphasizes:

"For our colleg:ins, it was a need to make an effective contribution to supporting people who are suffering from this war through these concerts. Our orchestra thrives on its internationality, which also strongly motivated us in this commitment."

Carsten Müller, Acting Director of JenaKultur, and Lutz Scherf, Acting President of the Lions Club Jena e. V., jointly explain how the donations raised will be used:

"The war in Ukraine is driving more and more people to flee. More and more Ukrainian refugee families are also arriving in Jena. Together with many civil society initiatives, the city of Jena is organizing accommodation, food and additional social care. We will therefore use the funds raised exclusively in Jena in order to overcome the challenges of the coming weeks and perhaps months together with other partners and, above all, with Ukrainian people.

Over the past few days, we have spoken to many Ukrainians and listened to them so that we can recognize where concrete support is actually needed. It has become very clear to us that accompanying the many Ukrainian children and young people on this difficult path must play a central role. For this reason, we will support appropriate projects and initiatives with the donations. We would like to thank all donors and guests of the benefit concerts for their strong contribution and would also like to convince other donors to get involved."
