Charity concerts for Ukrainian ensemble

05.04.2022

At the time of the outbreak of war in Ukraine, Vitaliy Kovalchuk, conductor at the Odessa Opera House, was on a concert tour of Poland with a group of artists from the Odessa Opera House. The plan was to return home together at the beginning of April. However, the war in Ukraine is currently making a trip home impossible.

JenaKultur is making it possible for the Ukrainian ensemble to give two concerts at the Volkshaus Jena in April. The proceeds will go directly to the nearly 40 musicians and dancers, and thus enable the financing and continuation of their tour in Germany. You too can support the ensemble by attending the benefit concerts on April 19 and 20 at 8 p.m. in the Volkshaus Jena. Conductor Vitaliy Kovalchuk, who studied at the "Franz Liszt" Academy of Music in Weimar and is therefore very familiar with the city of Jena, will be at the podium.

Highlights from opera, operetta and ballet await you on the first evening. In a festive gala concert, the Ukrainian artists will take you on a musical journey through the dramatic world of divas and heroic tenors as well as enchanting ballets. Experience great emotions in "Carmen", "La Traviata" or "Rigoletto". The operettas "Die Fledermaus" and "The Merry Widow" are also cheerful. Works by Ukrainian composers are also on the program.

On April 20, the ensemble will take you to the glittering stage world of cabaret. The program includes French chansons and hits from various musicals - a musical journey to Paris. While the vocal soloists take on the timeless songs of stars like Édith Piaf and Mireille Mathieu, the dancers provide an exciting stage show in Offenbach's fast-paced cancan or excerpts from the jazzy musical "Chicago". In addition, waltzes and tangos from films such as "Moulin Rouge" and "The Fabulous World of Amélie" will be heard.
