  • The survey officers will never ask to enter the home.
  • In case of doubt, people who are obliged to provide information should contact the survey office to find out whether they are actually dealing with a survey officer
  • Contact survey agency: 0049 3641 49-4488, Zensus2022.ehst@jena.de

Those contacted are obliged to provide information. The most important information about the census survey:

How does the household survey work?

Only part of the population is surveyed as part of the household survey. A random sample of residential addresses was drawn for this purpose. The result of this sample is extrapolated to the entire population of Jena. The residential addresses were selected on the basis of a complex mathematical random procedure. All persons living at a sample address on the reference date are identified and interviewed. The results of the survey are transmitted to the state statistical offices via the survey offices of the cities and districts. The cut-off date for the statistical data is May 15, 2022, after which the volunteers will be interviewed over the next three months. They identify themselves with an ID card from the Thuringian State Office for Statistics and their identity card. The survey officers announce their arrival by letter. If they are unable to attend the proposed appointment, they can request a postponement by telephone. The telephone number of the survey officers can be found on the appointment notification letters. A selected number of respondents are also asked to answer further questions via the Internet on a secure site. Access is via a code provided by the survey officers. Those who do not have Internet access can also answer the questionnaire at the survey office in Jena, Am Anger 28, or in writing on paper.

What is asked?

The household survey asks for information such as surname, first name, age, address, date of birth, nationality, marital status and the number of people living in the household. The aim is to determine the exact population figure.

How are surveys conducted in halls of residence and shared accommodation?

Due to a relatively high fluctuation or inadequate reporting behavior, it can be assumed that there is an above-average amount of outdated and/or incomplete information in the registers in residential homes and shared accommodation. This is why a complete survey is carried out here. This means that data is collected on all residents. Extrapolation is therefore not necessary. The interviewers will arrange appointments with the residents after the cut-off date of May 15, in the same way as for the household survey.

How is the building and apartment census conducted?

All owners or managers will receive an access code by post for a secure online page with the questionnaire, which must be answered. If online access is not possible, the questionnaire can also be requested in writing. However, the aim is to receive as many responses as possible online so that the data can be analyzed efficiently
