Dispose of cardboard boxes correctly
More and more people in Jena are shopping online and having their purchases delivered to their homes. This is very convenient for citizens. However, there is a corresponding amount of packaging waste. This is increasingly causing problems for waste collection services, as piles of loose cardboard are accumulating next to the waste paper garbage cans. And this often happens even though the paper garbage cans are still half empty.
Disposing of these items not only takes a lot of time, but is also an additional physical burden for the employees of Kommunalservice Jena (KSJ). After all, these are no longer isolated cases on their waste paper collection tour, during which they empty hundreds of tons every day.
Another problem is that some of the cardboard is blown away or gets soaked in wet weather. Sustainable disposal of this valuable raw material is then impossible. For this reason, cardboard has not been taken away for some time if it is left next to the blue garbage cans.
Where to put the cardboard boxes?
The city of Jena asks all residents to only dispose of cardboard boxes and cardboard in the blue garbage cans - shredded if necessary - and to no longer place them next to them. If there is too much packaging waste for the garbage can, it can be taken to the recycling centers (Emil-Wölk-Straße 13a and Löbstedter Straße 56) free of charge and without limit. Alternatively, a larger or additional waste paper bin can be ordered from KSJ.
