City of Jena welcomes 38 new trainees

31.08.2022

At a welcome event in the Volkshaus today, the city administration of Jena and its municipal enterprises welcomed 38 new trainees. The ceremony was opened by Lord Mayor Dr. Thomas Nitzsche, who was delighted to welcome the new employees: "At the city, we need junior staff like you - and not just against the backdrop of demographic change.Together with you and your ideas, we will be able to lead the administration well into the future."

Among the applicants this year, the training and study places for the practice-integrated training as an educator and for the dual study program in social work were particularly in demand.

At the same time, 24 graduates from a total of 14 training courses werealso given a farewell at the ceremony. Particularly pleasing, especially for training manager Anja Andritzke: "All trainees from the core administration were offered an employment contract. So we don't have to let anyone go - and that won't change any time soon, asmore and more colleagues will gradually reach retirement agefrom 2025onwards.This will of course also increase the career opportunities for junior staff. "

Portfolio ranges from gardener to fire officer trainee to IT specialist

The city administration of Jena and its four municipal enterprises are aware of the high demand for qualified specialists and managers, especially from 2023 onwards. The focus is therefore clearly on securing young talent in-house.In cooperation with the municipal companies , the city administration offers 24 apprenticeships in a wide range of disciplines, for example in administration, but also in the social and IT sectors. In addition, various dual study programs are available, such as"Business Informatics" or "Public Management", in which theory and practiceare interlinked.

The 38 new trainees are starting out in 16 training programs at the City of Jena and its municipal enterprises. 27 trainees will start in the core administration of the City of Jena. Eleven trainees will be employed by the municipal enterprises (Kommunalservice Jena: five; Kommunale Immobilien Jena: four; JenaKultur: two).

The tasks will be and remain very varied: The city's major construction projects, the necessary steps towards digital administration, supporting the goal of climate neutrality by 2035 and continuing to deal with the corona pandemic and its effects.

Training at the fire department

The Jena fire departmenthas been offering the 6-month basic training coursefor over three years. The high quality of this extensive training component is demonstrated by the fact that, in addition to our own trainees, numerous external trainees also register for this training phase in Jena.

Starting signal for the 2023 application phase begins on September 1
