City of Jena draws positive conclusions about the census
The main data collection phase for this year's statistical census ended in August. Only a few surveys are still being carried out at addresses that could not be surveyed or could not be surveyed in full.
Overall, the city of Jena is satisfied with the implementation to date. Since the cut-off date on 15.05.2022, 80 volunteer survey officers have been out and about in the Jena city area to collect the necessary information from a total of around 14,300 respondents at around 1,150 addresses. In addition, online access data and, if required, paper questionnaires were also sent out.
Special thanks go to the dedicated volunteer survey officers, without whom the so-called field phase could not have been completed on time. The response from the population was also overwhelmingly positive. However, there were also challenges for all nationwide survey offices: The software used centrally for the census had numerous errors, which caused massive delays in processing.
Citizens who have not yet been contacted or have not yet fulfilled their obligation to provide information will receive a written reminder in the coming days. Due to the software problems, it is possible that a reminder letter may be sent by mistake even though information has already been provided. In this case, those affected should contact the Jena data collection office:
- Tel.: 03641 49-4488
- zensus2022.ehst@jena.de
In a further step, penalty payment proceedings will be initiated against persons who do not comply with their obligation to provide information even after repeated requests.
To the census:
The census is carried out in Germany every 10 years to determine how many people live in Germany, how they live and how they work. It is used to record current population figures, demographic data (age, gender or citizenship) and data on education and occupation. They serve as a reliable planning basis for decisions at federal, state and municipal level. According to the Federal Statistical Office, the results of the 2022 census are not expected until the end of 2023 at the earliest.
