Wheelchair rocker inaugurated

Another project from the 2021 citizens' budget has been implemented.

The Wenigenjenaer Platz playground now has inclusive play equipment.Until now, no playgrounds in Jena offered equipment that could be used specifically for wheelchairs.

Dana Weingart submitted a proposal on behalf of the Advisory Board for People with Disabilities as part of the 2021 Citizens' Budget, which received the necessary majority in the vote. The aim was to build a piece of play equipment that would allow children with and without disabilities to play together.

Together with Christian Putzmann from Kommunalservice Jena, the advisory board developed the idea into a real piece of equipment: a wheelchair seesaw. The decisive parameters were play value, resilience, durability and ease of maintenance.In contrast to a classic seesaw, a railing was added toprovide walking support for children with limited mobility.

As the funds from the budget would not have been sufficient, Kommunalservice Jena used its own funds to make the addition to the play equipment possible, thus ensuring the success of the project.The Advisory Board for People with Disabilities would like to express its sincerethanks for this.

This year, another proposal was submitted to the citizens' budget: a barrier-free trampoline. Fingers crossed that this idea can also be implemented.
