Property tax reform means obligation to provide information
At the request of the Thuringian Ministryof Finance , the City of Jena once again draws attention tothe obligation of owners to provide information in order to determine the property tax value.
This taskis the responsibility of the tax office and not the municipal tax team. All queries regarding the assessment declaration can be clarified via the tax office's property tax hotline on 0361 - 57 3611 800.
Anyone who was the beneficial owner of real estate on 01.01.2022 must submit a declaration for the assessment of the property tax value to the tax office electronically by 31.10.2022. Only in cases of hardship may the declaration be submitted in paper form. This is particularly the case if no PC or internet is available and no close relatives can help with the submission of the declaration. In this case, those affected should also contact the property tax hotline.
The tax authorities provide the relevant forms for electronic filing of returns. A user account is required to use "My ELSTER". An existing user account - e.g. for submitting income tax returns - can also be used.
Various sample instructions explain step-by-step how to submit a declaration via "My ELSTER". The "Questions and answers" section contains frequently made mistakes and how to avoid them.
So that the declaration can be submitted without major interruptions,
the following documents are important (if available):
- Information letter from the tax office
- Special extract for property tax purposes from the Thuringia Property Tax Viewer,
- Documents showing the living and usable area for residential properties or gross floor area for non-residential properties
If owners have not received an information letter from the tax authorities, they can also obtain the file number from old assessment notices and documents from the tax office. Important: In Thuringia, a file number is mandatory for submitting the declaration; the tax number alone is not sufficient.
If you have an extract from the land register to hand, you are also welcome to state the land register page in the declaration. However, this is not mandatory, so the absence of this information does not prevent the declaration from being sent via "My ELSTER". The same applies to the request for the income tax number and the identification number of the owner of the property. You are welcome to enter this information in the declaration if it is available. However, it is also possible to send the declaration without this information.
