"Erlenhöfe" residential area of the Carl Zeiss eG housing cooperative before the decision-making phase

25.06.2020

On July 15, the city council is to decide on the approval and interpretation resolution for the project-related development plan "Nördlich der Karl-Liebknecht-Straße" and on the draft amendment to the land use plan in this area. Prior to this, both resolutions will be discussed in two readings by the Urban Development and Environment Committee on June 25 and July 9 and presented to the Wenigenjena District Council on July 1. This will lay important foundations for the creation of building rights for the new "Erlenhöfe" residential area in Wenigenjena.

The area between Karl-Liebknecht-Straße and Gembdenbach, which will be used as an allotment site until the end of 2020, is to become a new residential quarter for around 400 residents. A total of around 139 apartments of various sizes will be built. One focus will be on social housing. Around 129 apartments will be available exclusively to people with a lower overall income. The offer will be supplemented by alternative forms of housing such as shared apartments. Social infrastructure facilities such as childcare services and meeting places will be available in the new residential quarter. The aim is to create a residential quarter for all age groups.

Mayor Christian Gerlitz: "This project is a matter close to my heart. On the one hand, the design presented proves that WG Carl Zeiss was right to win Jena's first concept award with a fixed land price. On the other hand, with the support of the Free State, we can finally initiate a turnaround in the declining number of rent-controlled apartments. A district will be created that will not only be of a particularly high quality in terms of urban development, but will also help young families in particular with a rent of €5.90."

Following approval by the city council, the urban development plans will be on public display for a period of two months from the end of July in the offices of Department 3, Am Anger 26. During this time, interested citizens can obtain information and submit suggestions and comments on the planned residential area. Due to hygiene regulations, prior registration with the Urban Planning Department is required. At the same time, information about the project will be posted on the WG Carl Zeiss eG website. It will also be possible to submit comments here.
