Book and reading week at Jena kindergartens
Over the next few days, books will play a particularly important role in many Jena kindergartens. Because on the occasion of Read Aloud Day on Friday, 18.11.2022, some are organizing a whole week of reading aloud or books. This includes the municipal kindergarten Regenbogen and the AWO kindergarten Jenzigblick.

"Reading aloud encourages children in many ways. They learn to listen attentively and pay attention to details. This strengthens their ability to concentrate. It also expands their vocabulary and supports their language skills. That's why we have organized an entire book week," explains Oxana Tretyak, language specialist at the ThEKiZ Regenbogen kindergarten.
The children can not only bring their favorite books, but also make their own book in a book workshop. Numerous reading mentors are expected this week and the children can look forward to a variety of methods, such as a storytelling theater, story bags or digitally accompanied reading aloud. On Friday, the Förderverein is also organizing a book sale.

"Books in themselves are an exciting medium for children. They stimulate the imagination. The children can immerse themselves in strange worlds and create their own pictures instead of predetermined ones," explains Heide Broda, head of the Jenzigblick kindergarten.
Her institution is also working with Jena's Adolf Reichwein Grammar School as part of Reading Aloud Week. For example, a 7th grade class comes by to read to the daycare children. On another day, the children can bring along their favorite books, which are then read together. In addition, stories are only partially read aloud and the children come up with their own endings.

On Friday, the nationwide Read Aloud Day, parents, grandmas and grandpas come to both facilities and read to the children. Kiga Regebogen is also expecting Torsten Wolf, a member of the Thuringian state parliament. Lord Mayor Dr. Thomas Nitzsche will be visiting the Jenzigblick daycare center this year.
