Sustainable measures for Jena

08.07.2020

The Climate and Environment Round Table has presented Jena's Climate Protection Coordinator, Kevin Muschalle, with a list of measures containing many suggestions on how Jena can become even more climate and environmentally friendly in the coming years. For example, the expansion of the car-free city center, suggestions for the energy-efficient refurbishment of buildings and ideas for more urban greenery.

The catalog is based on the sustainability goals adopted by the city council last May, which were developed as part of the Global Sustainable Municipality Thuringia project. Georg Laube, organizer of the Round Table for Climate and Environment in Jena, presented the catalog:

"We worked on it for nine months and are thus proposing a large number of measures to the city administration, so that Jena now has the chance to lead the way in terms of climate and sustainability."

Kevin Muschalle thanked the Round Table for the extensive collection of ideas:

"The commitment of civic initiatives to climate protection and sustainable development in Jena is enormous. We are now examining which proposals can be included in the action program developed by the city of Jena."

In the fall, the steering group, a broad-based participatory body that has already developed the city of Jena's sustainability goals, will discuss this.
