Necessary tree felling work for the construction of a new fire station

16.02.2023

Tree felling is required as a preparatory measure to clear the construction site for the new construction project "Zwätzen volunteer fire station and rescue station" at Egelsee in Jena North. The felling of 16 trees is required. These are 12 wild alders, 1 deadwood (close to a mature poplar to be preserved) and 3 hazel trees. The official felling permit has been issued. The tree felling work was put out to public tender. The contract has been awarded so that the site clearance work can be completed on time by the end of 02/2023.

Finding land for the construction project was not easy. Despite many years of searching, it was not possible to find a suitable plot of land in the Zwätzen district for the construction of a new fire station and rescue station. It was therefore necessary to move to the neighboring district of Löbstedt to the industrial estate there. The plot for the new building is located at the turning hammer of the Am Egelsee development road. In terms of its central location in the northern part of the city, good transport connections, flatness, size and layout, the site offers good conditions for the realization of a new building project with vehicle halls and adjoining social and recreation areas.

The ten required replacement plantings for necessary tree felling, which fall under the tree protection statutes, will be carried out on the building site, integrated into the open space planning and maintained during operation by the responsible janitor service. Completion of the building and commissioning by the users is planned for the end of 2024.
