Hack the paradise!
Hack the paradise! - Smart City Jena invites you to a lecture event and hackathon
The implementation phase of the Smart City project can begin! The project starts with a hackathon - an event from field of action 4 "Business and Science". A hackathon is an intensive, collaborative event where developers, designers, data experts and other creative minds come together to develop innovative solutions to specific challenges within a set time frame. In line with the vision of the project "Jena digitizes, learns and shares. Our city creates and uses KNOWLEDGE for a fair, sustainable and innovative city.", the event will be held under the motto of knowledge transfer.
Invitation to various target groups
The aim is to use the city's swarm knowledge and work together with business, science and civil society on smart solutions for the city. Developers, creatives, visionaries, students, data experts, designers and interested citizens are invited to Hack the paradise! - the hackathon to shape the digital city of the future. As part of the two model projects Smart City and 5G traffic networking, innovative solutions will be sought together to make Jena an even better place to live, work and study.
Smart City Forum: Presentations on current topics
The event is divided into the Smart City Forum on 16.06.23 and the Hackathon on 17.06.23. The Smart City Forum will take place in the newly opened StadtLab. Citizens can listen to interesting presentations on current urban development topics with a concrete reference to the city of Jena. In seven short presentations, expert speakers will report on the in-depth forest condition survey in Jena's urban forest, safe cycling in the city, the processing of digital data and the heart of the Jena Smart City project - the urban data platform.
Hackathon: exchange, networking and experimentation
On Saturday, 17.06.23, the 1st Hackathon in the context of Smart City Jena will take place as an exchange, networking and experimentation event. The thematic focus "Urban Data Platform & Sensor Technology" is intended to be a further step towards the intelligent use of urban data. For example, the construction of open bike sensors to localize danger spots for cyclists in urban traffic and to be able to take appropriate countermeasures in the future will be processed and implemented. Another focus is the topic of soil moisture sensors. With the help of sensors that measure the moisture content in the soil, data can be obtained on the actual water supply to the vegetation and targeted irrigation can be planned. Sensors are currently being used for test purposes at locations for planting new urban trees and for a monitoring project in the urban forest. A city-wide sensor network is currently being set up. This data is to be evaluated and visualized as part of the challenge. The aim is to use the data to develop an urban watering route optimization in order to be able to optimally supply the urban greenery in future dry periods.
Vision and citizen participation: Working together on ideas and prototypes
The department head responsible for digitalization, Benjamin Koppe:
"The aim of the city of Jena is to shape the successful innovation location step by step in a future-oriented and sustainable way with the help of digital technologies and to develop it into a more attractive place to live and work. With both events, which were planned in the context of the nationwide Digital Day, we want to invite people to join in."
Dorothea Prell, overall project manager:
"Following the successful strategy development phase, we are delighted to be able to enter into a direct exchange with the citizens who are at the heart of our Smart City project with an initial concrete offer at the Smart City Forum. As an important participation format, the hackathon offers us the opportunity to work on ideas and prototypes together with anyone who is interested and curious in a kind of experimental and test laboratory. Our project teams are looking forward to welcoming numerous participants on 16 and 17 June 2023!"
