
Jena Disabled Sports Games with support from Latvia
After the corona break, the Disabled Sports Games are taking place again today (14.6.2023) in the Oberaue in Jena's Paradies. The Jena Disabled People's Association has been organizing the popular sports competitions since the 1990s. With around 300 athletes with mental or physical disabilities from 17 sports and disability clubs in Thuringia, this year's event will see a record number of participants.
Sporting support is also being provided by the athletes for the Special Olympics World Games from Latvia, who are staying in Jena until Thursday. Lord Mayor Dr. Thomas Nitzsche, Head of Sports Benjamin Koppe and Beate Wachenbrunner from the city's own municipal real estate company, which also maintains the sports facilities in the Oberaue, welcomed the participants and wished them "Sport frei!
