Life-saving clock in the citizen service

As of today, there is a defibrillator in the new citizen services building at Engelplatz 1. This device can be used if a person suddenly suffers life-threatening cardiac arrhythmia. A current pulse helps the heart to find the right rhythm again.

The life-saving device was donated by the Work Samaritan Federation (ASB). The Chairwoman of the ASB regional association in Thuringia, Marion Walsmann, and Rene Zettlitzer, Managing Director of the ASB district association in Jena, presented the brand new defibrillator, worth 1,600 euros, to Head of Department Eberhard Hertzsch and the Head of Citizen Services, Olaf Schroth, today. It will be installed in the entrance area of the new building.

"This is the most frequented place in the city administration and I am glad that we now have such a device available here too,"

emphasized Schroth.

There had already been a defibrillator at the previous location on Löbdergraben for several years. Several employees have been trained and are able to use the device immediately. However, it can also be used by any visitor. Up to 1,200 citizens visit the building every day.

Emergency devices are also available in the Goethe-Galerie and in several larger companies in the city.

"There are now six defibrillators installed in city administration buildings,"

said Wilfried Schau from the Fire Service, which is responsible for occupational safety in Jena City Council.

The background

Sudden cardiac death occurs in around 100,000 cases in Germany every year. If emergency witnesses intervene courageously, carry out resuscitation measures consistently and well and use a defibrillator, the chances of survival increase to over 60 percent. The devices are very safe and support the first aider with clear and concise instructions during resuscitation. This enables first aiders to intervene quickly and confidently and save lives.
