AWO and the city award the Jena Volunteer Prize

25.09.2024

Without them, many things would be very different or even impossible: the volunteers. "We are very aware of the special role that volunteering plays in living and working together in our community," says Lord Mayor Dr. Thomas Nitzsche. This is why the city, together with the AWO Regional Association of Central-West Thuringia, is awarding the 23rd Jena Volunteer Prize in recognition of outstanding volunteer work.

"Volunteering is as diverse as the people themselves. At the AWO, there are numerous opportunities to get involved - whether in care, childcare or social projects," says AWO Education and Integration Assistance Division Manager Heide Broda. "Together, we create spaces for encounters, support and community. We strengthen volunteering in our facilities through support associations. In this way, we enable participation and co-determination by our members, who feel connected and have the desire to become active themselves. We achieve this by bringing people together in a variety of ways and showing that full-time and voluntary work go hand in hand and are fun."

The Volunteer Award is intended to honor people who are particularly committed to the social sector and the community in the city of Jena. A jury will vote on the proposals submitted. People who are nominated by an association, an institution or a fellow human being as well as volunteer projects and initiatives can take part.

The award comes with an honorary trophy and prize money in the high three- to four-digit range. The award ceremony will take place on November 21, 2024 as part of the thank-you event for volunteering in Jena.
