First Jena inclusion soccer tournament

25.04.2025

The Jenzig sports facility in Jena will be transformed into a playing field of diversity on Monday, 28.04.2025: at the first Jena inclusion soccer tournament, people with and without disabilities will compete in mixed teams - all in the spirit of team spirit, respect and inclusion in practice. The tournament is organized by the Stadtsportbund Jena e.V., which aims to promote and expand inclusive sports activities in the city in the long term. The tournament is supported by Saale Betreuungswerk Jena and KFA Jena-Saale-Orla, who have been campaigning for more participation in sport for years.

Nine committed teams from all over Thuringia are taking part:

- Saale Betreuungswerk Jena
- Spirit of Football
- Lebenshilfewerk Ilmenau - Rudolstadt
- Rehab Center Stadtroda
- Landenberger School Weimar
- Lebenshilfe Gera
- ASB Bad Klosterlausnitz
- North Thuringian workshops
- WSG Friedberger Suhl

"Inclusion means being active together - and that's exactly what we want to make visible here,"

says Thomas Schmidt, sports coordinator at Stadtsportbund Jena e.V.

"Our aim is to overcome barriers - not just in the mind, but also on the pitch."

"Joint sport brings people together and helps to break down prejudices and fears of contact,"

says Head of Sports Johannes Schleußner.

"Sport offers low-threshold opportunities to get active, get involved and participate. That is why it is a very good and important way for people with disabilities to participate in social life."
