Major fire department operation in Jena-Zwätzen

The Jena fire department was alerted to a fire in Jena-Zwätzen by residents shortly after 06:00 on Friday, 02.05.2025. A warehouse at Wiesenstraße 104 was on fire and there was heavy smoke development.

A warning message was issued via the Modular Warning System (MoWaS), which was also distributed via the NINA warning app. This was valid until around 09:20.

The fire is now under control. Kommunalservice Jena (KSJ) is currently supporting the emergency services on site. A wheel loader is being used to pull apart the burning material in order to extinguish any remaining embers.

The cause of the fire is still unclear and the police are investigating. Two residents were injured: one person was treated as an outpatient, another was taken to hospital.

A total of 29 units were deployed. In addition to the Jena professional fire department, the volunteer fire departments of Jena-Mitte, Wogau, Wöllnitz, Zwätzen, Lützeroda, Lobeda, Göschwitz and Winzerla were also alerted.
