Burgau elects district mayor on Sunday

19.06.2025

A new district mayor will be elected in Burgau next Sunday. Incumbent Andreas Fehrle passed away unexpectedly at the beginning of the year. The only candidate now standing is René Hachmeister, previously a member of the district council and deputy district mayor. Voters have the option of voting for him or writing the name of another eligible Burgau resident on the ballot paper.

If no candidate wins more than half of the votes in the first ballot, a run-off election will be held on Sunday, 06.07.2025, between the two best-placed candidates.

All Germans and EU foreigners over the age of 16 who have had their main residence in Burgau for at least three months are eligible to vote. Around 450 Burgau residents are called to vote. The polling station is located in the Saaleknirpse kindergarten, Göschwitzer Straße 23, and is open from 8.00 am to 6.00 pm. Counting will begin at 6.00 pm. The postal vote will also be counted at the polling station; preparations for this will begin at 5.00 pm.

Drop-off locations and deadlines for postal ballots

Absentee ballots can be handed in at the Citizens' Services Department, Engelplatz 1, until Friday, 6 p.m. and posted in the City of Jena's deadline letterbox, Gerbergasse / Am Anger 15, until Saturday, midnight. On Sunday, election letters can still be handed in at the election center at the Citizens' Services until 6.00 pm.

On Friday, postal votes can also be applied for at the Citizens' Services and voted for immediately. Anyone who has applied for postal voting but has not yet received the documents is requested to contact the Citizens' Services by 12.00 noon on Saturday at the latest. Later complaints may no longer be considered.
