Observing insects in Jena Forest

07.08.2024

More than 3,700 butterfly species live in Germany, but only around 200 of them are diurnal butterflies. The vast majority are nocturnal and therefore difficult to observe.

The nature conservation team of Jena City Council, the municipal forestry department of the municipal service and the Natura 2000 station "Mittlere Saale" invite all interested parties to experience the lively hustle and bustle of the night butterflies up close on Friday, 09.08.2024. After a short introductory lecture, butterflies and other nocturnal insects can be observed together with entomologist Frank Hünefeld at various light traps and bait sites.

  • Where? Nature experience center "forum naturae", entrance Waldvilla, Schottplatz 1, Jena
  • When? Friday, 09.08.2024, admission from 19:00, lecture 19:30
  • What: Walk to the bait trail and light trapping from 8:15 pm

Note: Unfortunately, the event cannot take place in case of rain.
