Online participation in the planned cycle route in Jahnstrasse and Talstrasse
The city of Jena's public online consultation on the planned cycle route in Jahnstraße and Talstraße - in the section between Carl-Zeiss-Platz and Katharinenstraße - is open until 05.07.2025. Participation is aimed in particular at residents in the western districts of the city. They can get actively involved in the planning via the municipal platform mitmachen.jena.de. The aim is to record the interests and perspectives from Jena-West and the neighboring districts and incorporate them into further planning.
First exchange: wishes from the population
An initial exchange with citizens took place at the Jahnplatz festival on 01.05.2025. The great commitment of the residents and users was already evident there, as they contributed numerous suggestions. Among other things, the following wishes were expressed:
- Installation of traffic sign 277.1 ("No overtaking for single-lane vehicles")
- Reduction of parking search traffic in Jahnstraße
- Inclusion of Blumenstraße in the cycle lane
- More bicycle parking spaces
- Wider sidewalks, reduction of parking spaces if necessary
- Avoidance of motor vehicle shortcuts around the Carl Zeiss monument
- Improved signposting and accessibility, e.g. on Lommerweg
- One-way street regulations in Talstrasse, Melanchthonstrasse and Frommannstrasse
- Increased monitoring of parking and driving offences, possibly using speed cameras
- Conversion of parking spaces into green areas
The city administration has also put forward its own ideas, for example for better marking of entrances, right of way regulations, safe crossing solutions and alternative routes for cyclists.
Participation welcome - online for one month
Safety, comfort and quality of life for everyone - especially cyclists and residents - are at the heart of the planning process. The online participation will run for one month and offers space for opinions, comments and specific suggestions. Information on the process to date, the planning and an explanatory poster are also available.
Background: Bicycle lanes
Bicycle lanes are traffic areas that are primarily reserved for cyclists. Motor vehicles are only allowed to use them to a limited extent. A 30 km/h speed limit, priority for cyclists and a special design ensure greater safety and visibility.
