Paradiestriathlon Draws Record Turnout

25.06.2026

With 1,327 registered participants, the Jena Paradiestriathlon has set a new record. This coming Saturday, June 27, triathletes will compete in numerous events around Schleichersee to determine the top finishers. Among other events, the German Junior Team Championships will be held. The first race starts at 8 a.m., and the last one at 5 p.m. for the relay triathlon, which is also seeing record participation. Jena’s mayor, Dr. Thomas Nitzsche, will also be competing as part of a team alongside the mayors of Gera, Kurt Dannenberg, and Altenburg, André Neumann.

Changes Due to High Temperatures

Due to the forecast of exceptionally high temperatures, the organizers have made numerous adjustments. Among other things, the competition venue has been moved from the artificial turf field to a natural grass field, as the surface temperature is lower there. Organizer Matthias Weißbrodt emphasizes that it is very gratifying that rescheduling like this is possible in Jena on such short notice. “A heartfelt thank you to the KIJ team, which always keeps the facilities in such good condition that such schedule changes can be implemented very quickly.” The number of water stations (drinks, showers, sponges) has also been doubled for the athletes. Additional tents have been set up throughout the grounds, and participants are also permitted to set up their own folding pavilions. Even though the athletes are looking forward to the great atmosphere and support along the course, everyone’s health comes first, according to the organizing team. Visitors are strongly urged to take all necessary precautions against the heat.

Since the event is made possible largely by volunteers, they are particularly exposed to the heat. To ensure that shifts can be shorter for everyone under these conditions, the organizing team welcomes additional support. Anyone who can step in on short notice should please contact: info@paradiestriathlon.de

Traffic Restrictions

For the cycling route, Stadtrodaer Straße will be closed in both lanes heading out of town on Saturday between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. Traffic will be rerouted in a single lane on the lanes heading into town. As a result, Jena public transit will not serve the outbound bus stops “Sportforum” and “Wöllnitz” between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.; no alternative stops will be provided.

Vehicle access to the Oberaue will not be possible all day. Pedestrians and cyclists may pass through.

Despite the competitions, the Südbad will be open to swimmers at the regular admission prices. However, there will be restrictions at the lake throughout the day.
