Photo documentary on the 75th anniversary of the end of the war in Jena
The commemorations of the day of liberation from National Socialism and the end of the Second World War in Europe are very limited this year. A special way has been found to illustrate the situation in Jena 75 years ago.
Journalist Frank Döbert has made unique photos available from his collection. They depict the situation in Jena in April / May 1945, which was documented by American soldiers. These photographs thus represent very early impressions of the destroyed city. The extent of the destruction is unimaginable for many Jena residents. We are therefore very grateful to be able to show these photographs to the public.
The images will be shown in a continuous projector loop on May 8, 9 and 10 in the museum workshop of the City Museum opposite St. Michael's Church in Saalstraße. The presentation will be visible through the shop windows of the workshop. This will give many people an impression of the atmosphere in Jena 75 years ago. We ask you to keep a distance of 1.5 meters from each other.
The campaign was made possible by Frank Döbert, the Göhre City Museum and especially its technician Kai Auerswald.
