Relieving Traffic on Löbdergraben and Karl-Liebknecht-Straße
The complete four-lane expansion of the Osttangente is part of the City of Jena’s transportation development plan. The primary goal is to relieve sensitive urban areas such as Löbdergraben and Karl-Liebknecht-Straße of local through traffic. In the long term, extensive traffic calming measures are also planned for Löbdergraben. This complex project includes, among other things, the Fischergasse/Knebelstraße intersection, the streets Am Eisenbahndamm and Am Anger, the southern section of Wiesenstraße, and the Anger intersection.
Planning for Bicycle Traffic
Cycling is also being taken into account in the planning . Continuous, two-way, direction-specific bike lanes are planned along the entire route. This is becoming increasingly important in light of the growing development and the emerging university campus along the route.
A large number of new trees are also planned to be planted.
