Preparations for the federal elections
97 polling stations will be open in Jena for the election of the 20th German Bundestag on September 26. A total of 81,030 eligible voters will be called upon to cast their vote for the composition of the future parliament. 4,148 of them can vote for the first time.
In order to cope with the increased interest in postal voting, 32 postal voting districts have been created. The election management assumes that around 50% of voters will take advantage of this offer. The proportion of postal votes in Jena was also very high in previous elections.
The election notifications are currently being sent out. They should be in the letterboxes on Saturday. They will explain how to apply for postal voting documents. This can be done online via jena.de or in person from September 6 at the postal voting office in the historic town hall, Markt 1. The completed postal voting documents can then be sent to the city by post. It is also possible to drop them in the deadline letterbox by 6 pm on election day.
Anyone who does not receive a polling card by September 5 can request one at the postal polling station. The objection period lasts until September 10.
There are some special features to note on election day on September 26:
- The constituencies have been rearranged. The polling stations may therefore have changed. The current location is noted on the polling card.
- Only a certain number of people may be admitted to the polling stations. Therefore, there may be waiting times in some places.
- Access to the polling station is only possible with a medical mask. You are also asked to bring your own pen.
Around 1,100 volunteer electoral assistants will prepare the election, facilitate the voting process in the polling stations and then count the votes and report the results to the electoral administration. Special thanks go to these citizens.
