Prize for green oases in Jena awarded in 2020

12.10.2020

On October 12, 2020, the "Prize for Green Oases in Jena 2020" was awarded in the Botanical Garden of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena. The city awarded the prize for the first time this year as a further development of the previous prize for façade and roof greening.

The jury, which consists of honorary members and representatives of the city of Jena, selected 8 winners from the numerous applications. The main prize of €500 was presented to Anette Möbius by Mayor Christian Gerlitz.

"Ms. Möbius has brought greenery into the heart of our city on and around her house in an exemplary manner. In addition to lush greenery on the façade, an extremely attractive front garden design and colorful flowering balcony plantings, this area of the property was also transformed into a green oasis following the demolition of the rear building," says Christian Gerlitz.

A further 6 families were delighted to receive prizes of €150 and €300 respectively. In addition to prize money, vouchers for a purchase from Boock Gartenkultur were presented. Book vouchers and calendars were presented by NABU.

The company impuls°Landschaftsarchitektur, which planned and implemented the transformation of a vacant lot into the "Pocketpark Sparkasse Jena" on the initiative of the Sparkasse, was recognized.

The mayor and the jury would like to thank all of this year's applicants for their commitment and hope to receive numerous applications for green façades and roofs, courtyards and front gardens, fallow land and balconies again next year. The "Prize for Green Oases 2021" is expected to be awarded at the beginning of next year.
