Realignment of the management structure in the Stadtwerke Jena Group

16.12.2020

At their meetings on 14 and 15 December 2020, the Supervisory Boards of Stadtwerke Jena GmbH and its subsidiary Stadtwerke Energie Jena-Pößneck GmbH followed the proposal of the Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Lord Mayor Dr. Thomas Nitzsche, and made new appointments to the management board.

Claudia Budich and Tobias Wolfrum are to be appointed as Managing Directors of Stadtwerke Jena GmbH as proposed by the Supervisory Board. Both are to take up their positions, which are initially limited to two years, on 01.02.2021. The necessary confirmation by the city council is planned for January.

Claudia Budich brings extensive expertise and experience from her ten years as Head of Business Administration at the Stadtwerke Jena Group. Among other things, she is an authorized signatory of Stadtwerke Jena Netze GmbH and Jenaer Nahverkehr GmbH and was employed by the auditing firm PricewaterhouseCoopers for twelve years before joining Stadtwerke Jena.

Tobias Wolfrum has been Managing Director of jenawohnen GmbH since 2016. Prior to this, he was responsible for technical management at the company and was an authorized signatory. From 2003 to 2014, he was, among other things, technical plant manager at the municipal real estate company Kommunale Immobilien Jena. Tobias Wolfrum will continue to perform his duties as Managing Director of jenawohnen GmbH.

Claudia Budich has also been appointed Managing Director of Stadtwerke Energie Jena-Pößneck GmbH for the same period and will initially perform this function alone following the departure of the previous Managing Directors until the appointment of a further Managing Director to be proposed by the shareholder ThüGa.

Together with the Managing Directors Thomas Dirkes and Thomas Zaremba, who are due to retire next year, the two newly appointed Managing Directors will pave the way for the further development of the Stadtwerke Group.

30 years after reunification, the entire Stadtwerke family is now entering a very challenging phase of major investments,

says Lord Mayor and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Stadtwerke Jena Dr. Thomas Nitzsche.

Examples include the planned projects in network infrastructure, the further expansion of renewable energies, the housing stock and new housing construction, as well as the procurement of new streetcars and the construction of the new indoor swimming pool in Lobeda. This development of Stadtwerke correlates and should be closely intertwined with the growth course, to which the city of Jena will also expressly adhere, with a view beyond the acute management of the corona pandemic.

Claudia Budich and Tobias Wolfrum are the right team at the helm for these challenges,

adds Mayor Christian Gerlitz.

Both internally and externally, they stand for a leadership culture based on cooperation. They will pursue a strategy that commits the Group and its individual companies to economic stability as well as to the goals of the common good and public services.

The new team stands for an orderly transition at the top of our municipal utilities,

concludes Lord Mayor and Chairman of the Supervisory Board Dr. Thomas Nitzsche.

With the Smart Neighborhood pilot project in Lobeda, both are already demonstrating how new business areas can be opened up and developed for the municipal utilities with innovative cross-societal approaches. I would like to thank both managing directors for taking on the responsibility at the top and am sure that they will succeed in keeping Stadtwerke on course for success in the future together with all partners.
