Reception for guests from France
Mayor Dr. Thomas Nitzsche welcomed guests from the French town of Plomeur to the Historic Town Hall today. For 30 years now, the sister cities of Plomeur and Cospeda have been visiting each other on an annual rotation and participating in a joint program. Today’s meeting thus marked the celebration of a milestone anniversary.
The reception at City Hall was part of a week-long program that included, among other things, a guided tour of Dornburg Castle, visits to Naumburg Cathedral and the Naumburg sparkling wine factory, a choir concert in the church in Cospeda, as well as guided tours in Jena of the crypt of St. Michael’s City Church and the main university building.
A group from Jena had last traveled to Plomeur in June 2025. Now the return visit took place, for which some 20 guests from France were accommodated in host families in Cospeda and the surrounding area.
An active partnership thanks to dedicated citizens
The partnership was officially established back in 1993—even before the incorporation into Jena. The connection between the two communities is fostered by dedicated citizens in the partnership association Freunde von Plomeur e.V.
Mayor Nitzsche praised the long-standing existence of this partnership, which he credited to the volunteer commitment of the association’s members. They, he said, bring the spirit of international friendship to life.
