Resident parking: New regulations from April 2026
From 01.04.2026, the city of Jena will extend resident parking in the city center and in the Lutherstraße Ost area. The aim is to distribute the available parking space more fairly, relieve the burden on residents and consistently develop parking space management in line with the Climate Action Plan.
"Parking pressure is particularly high in densely built-up inner-city areas. By extending resident parking, we are ensuring clearer rules and creating more reliability for the people who live here," says Dirk Lange, Head of Urban Development and Environment.
Extension of residents' parking zone I (city center)
The existing Zone I in the city center will be rounded off and adapted to the current parking fee zone. This will create seamless parking space management.
Newly included in Zone I are areas bordered by Leutragraben, Schillerstraße, Ernst-Haeckel-Straße, Carl-Zeiß-Platz, Carl-Zeiß-Straße and Krautgasse.
Resident parking permits can be applied for from 02.02.2026 by residents of the following streets and squares, among others
- Carl-Zeiß-Platz (eastern side of the street)
- Carl-Zeiß-Straße (complete)
- Ernst-Abbe-Platz and Ernst-Abbe-Straße (complete)
- Ernst-Haeckel-Platz (house numbers 5 and 6)
- Goethestraße (complete)
- Leutragraben (house numbers 2, 4, 6 and 8 - western side)
The management of existing public parking spaces, for example in Krautgasse or Ernst-Abbe-Straße, remains unchanged.
New residents' parking zone IV "Lutherstraße Ost"
In addition, a new residents' parking zone will be set up in the area east of Riedstraße. It is bordered by Lutherstraße, Riedstraße, Jahnstraße and Carl-Zeiß-Platz.
The new zone IV includes
- Blumenstraße (complete)
- Carl-Zeiß-Platz (house numbers 8, 10, 12, 14, 15 and 16)
- Jahnstraße (east of Jahnplatz)
- Lutherstraße (east of Riedstraße)
- Riedstraße (completely)
How to park in future
Different regulations apply in the new Zone IV:
- East of Riedstraße: mixed principle - parking with a parking ticket or free of charge with a resident parking permit.
- West of Riedstraße: residents-only parking. Only vehicles with a resident parking permit may park there. In some areas, such as Lutherstraße, this regulation only applies in the evening and at night from 18:00 to 08:00.
Areas currently affected by the construction site at the German Optical Museum will be excluded for the time being. The existing regulations in Carl-Zeiß-Straße in the traffic-calmed area north of the Abbe monument also remain unchanged.
Who can apply for a resident parking permit
A resident parking permit is issued to persons who:
- have their main residence in the respective resident parking zone,
- cannot use a private parking space in this zone and
- are the owner of a motor vehicle up to 3.5 tons or can prove that they use it permanently.
Applications can be made online. Information and a parking zone search can be found at:
From now on, the residents' parking zones will also be clearly displayed on the city's map portal. However, the signage on site is always decisive. The new zones are expected to be signposted at the end of March. The parking machines will then also be installed.
