On 6 April 2024, the time has come again: the annual Saale cleaning campaign, organized by the community foundation and supported by the city, will take place for the 17th time. Originally launched by SaaleVision e. V., the campaign has since developed into a broad-based community project in which numerous initiatives such as fishing and rowing clubs, the DLRG, Nabu and many more take part.

The cleaning campaign extends along nine sections from Maua to Kunitz along the Saale and the banks of the Saale, which corresponds to a total length of around 12 kilometers. The Leutra will also be cleaned. If possible, participants can register in advance on the Bürgerstiftung's website and will then receive information about the decentralized meeting points. At each section, there is a responsible person who provides garbage collection materials for their group. Last year, around 300 committed people took part and together collected an impressive 3.8 tons of garbage.

In cooperation with Saalestrand Kanu, experienced canoeists also have the opportunity to support the cleaning campaign from a canoe and experience the beauty of the Saale from a new perspective.

One highlight is the planned closing party with a goulash cannon at Gries, but decentralized refreshments for the helpers are also planned at other locations such as Lobeda, Burgau and Kunitz. As in previous years, the Safe Nature Group's recycling mobile will be on hand at Gries to teach children (and adults) about recycling plastic waste.
