Serious accident at work keeps the Jena fire department busy

13.08.2019

A serious accident occurred between 10.00 and 10.30 a.m. at a construction site for the new construction of a residential building on the upper Magdelstieg.

Ceiling tiles were being laid on the 2nd floor of the new building. Two workers fell into a 4 meter deep elevator shaft. One of the men's thigh was pierced by a reinforcement bar.

The one who fell was quickly rescued on site and treated in an ambulance. The second man was pulled off the iron with an immediate rescue. Beforehand, the construction crane had to move a ceiling slab aside. Both injured persons were immediately taken to the emergency room.

The location of the scene proved to be very problematic. All the vehicles had stopped about 200 m away from the scene of the accident. The equipment therefore had to be transported to the casualties first.

The rescue train of the professional fire department, the height rescue group, an emergency chaplain, 1 emergency ambulance and 2 ambulances were deployed. The Mitte, Lobeda and Winzerla volunteer fire departments were put on standby.

The operation on site lasted around 1 ½ hours. The follow-up work and cleaning of the equipment took considerably longer.
