Start of new basic fire department training course in Jena
On April 1, 2026, the 9th basic training course for the fire department began in Jena. A total of 16 participants from Jena, Thuringia, Berlin and industry are starting their training with the fire department.
The candidates were welcomed to the South Fire Station in Göschwitz by Mayor and Head of Safety Benjamin Koppe, Head of Fire Service Nick Ludwig, Team Leader Ingolf Helbig and colleagues from the training team.
Benjamin Koppe emphasized the importance of the training location during the welcome speech: "Jena has established itself as an efficient training location for the fire department in recent years. The high demand from Thuringia, Berlin and industry shows that the practical and high-quality training is valued far beyond the region. Jena is thus making an important contribution to securing skilled workers and strengthening emergency response."
The prospective emergency services personnel come from various cities and institutions. In addition to the city of Jena, the cities of Berlin, Rudolstadt, Nordhausen and Ilmenau, the rescue service Zweckverband Südthüringen and the company TotalEnergies from Leuna are also represented. The participants are also accompanied by a federal volunteer who works at the southern fire station (front row, far left in the photo).
The training lasts around 980 hours and combines theoretical principles with intensive practical exercises and physical fitness training. The aim is to provide practical preparation for the diverse requirements of emergency services right from the start.
The training content includes, among other things
- Firefighting and extinguishing techniques
- Technical assistance in traffic accidents and complex emergency situations
- Rescue and first aid of persons
- Hazard theory and legal principles Vehicle and equipment knowledge
- Radiotelephony and operational communication
- Breathing apparatus training and load exercises
- Tactical procedures during operations
The course is organized and carried out by the specialist fire department of the city of Jena. Over the coming months, the experienced training team will intensively prepare the participants for the requirements of the emergency services. The basic course is a central component of training in the fire department and at the same time an important building block for securing qualified specialists in fire and disaster protection.
