
Success for Jena schools in the Thuringian school cycling competition
Three Jena schools are among the nine winners of this year's Thuringian school cycling competition. They were presented with their awards on Friday by State Secretary Prof. Dr. Barbara Schönig from the Thuringian Ministry for Infrastructure and Agriculture in the presence of Jena's Mayor and Head of the Department for Urban Development and the Environment Christian Gerlitz in Erfurt.
The participants from Angergymnasium Jena covered a total of 51,051.0 kilometers by bike during the competition period. This secured them first place in the category "School with the most kilometers cycled overall", followed by Otto-Schott-Gymnasium Jena with 36,764.4 kilometers. The Staatliche Gemeinschaftsschule Kulturanum Jena took third place in the category "School with the most bicycle kilometers per participating person" with an average of 241.1 km.
In total, more than 100 Thuringian schools took part in the competition from September 2 to 22, 2023 and cycled more than 715,000 kilometers. This means they circumnavigated the globe almost 18 times.

School cycling competition
In the school cycling competition, pupils, teachers, staff and parents were encouraged to cycle as many kilometers as possible. The kilometers collected in the school cycling competition were also counted in the city cycling competition.
