Successful application: Jena to host the Digital Summit 2023

The city of Jena will host the Digital Summit 2023 in the fall. The Digital Summit is the German government's largest digital policy conference and has been held since 2016 with changing themes. The motto of this year's summit is "Digital transformation at the turn of an era. Sustainable. Resilient. Future-oriented.".

"I am delighted that the application was successful. The Ministry of Economic Affairs was happy to provide support. The compact location of the city allows for the organization of a decentralized congress that is not only presented in an exhibition hall. Instead, the entire city with its business and science sectors will be involved. This will provide important impetus far beyond the city limits," says Economics Minister Wolfgang Tiefensee.

Lord Mayor Dr. Thomas Nitzsche is delighted: "The fact that Jena has once again been awarded the Federal Government's Digital Summit is a sign of great appreciation, for which I am very grateful. It shows: Jena is seen as a digital location. We were ready to host the summit once before in 2020, but unfortunately the program had to be cancelled due to the pandemic. We will now once again do everything we can to be a good and competent host for the digital summit."

Benjamin Koppe, the department head responsible for digitalization, also expresses his delight at the German government's commitment: "We can be proud that we have prevailed in the bidding process for the second time and will be able to hold this major event in person after the coronavirus-related postponement of 2020. The summit offers good networking opportunities for our strong companies and research institutions in the city. With the planned supporting programme, we also want to actively involve the city's interested citizens and get them excited about the topic of digitalization in the run-up to the summit. Our aim is to enrich the summit program with various event formats and also to set our own priorities."

The main program of the Digital Summit will take place on 20 and 21 November 2023 in the Volkshaus. Together with the responsible federal ministries BMWK and BMDV, the activities of the summit and the municipal initiatives will be planned here on site with the Jena city administration, the Jena Convention Bureau (JenaKultur) and the Economic Development Agency.
