Successful public dialog on the Camsdorf bridge

19.09.2019

The city administration has once again sought dialog with politicians and citizens regarding the crossing at Camsdorf Bridge. On Tuesday and Wednesday, all authorities involved in the project and the commissioned planning office informed numerous citizens about the planned underpass and answered questions .

Lord Mayor Dr. Thomas Nitzsche:

"The underpass is the only traffic-safe option, even if it is not well received everywhere. This has been the conclusion of all studies on pedestrian and cycle traffic crossings on the east side of the Camsdorf Bridge for almost twenty years."

Transparency at on-site appointments

At the on-site appointments, it was disclosed with great transparency which parts of the existing biotope would be affected by the construction work. It was also explained what measures would be taken to minimize the impact of the intervention. For example, the 14 trees affected in the biotope and 5 outside the biotope will be offset by almost 50 new plantings in the immediate vicinity. In addition, the representatives of the traffic authority explained in detail each of the above-ground road crossing options examined and explained why the dangers lurking at this point cannot be countered in this way.

Mayor Christian Gerlitz:

"We would immediately implement a safe above-ground crossing option if it were found. After all, nature conservation is one of the city administration's most important goals. However, as such a solution has not yet been found, all the specialist authorities involved (lower nature conservation authority, water authority, traffic authority) have so far agreed to this option, despite the restrictions of the biotope."

Lord Mayor Nitzsche:

"Since the start of the Wenigenjena community school, school traffic at this crossing has increased significantly. The danger spot must be remedied quickly, as the accident last week also made clear."

Brochure on the cycle crossing

The city council has produced a brochure on the Camsdorfer Brücke cycle crossing. It presents the many options that have been examined and is also available on the city of Jena's website(link is external).

These are all measures with which the administration ensures the greatest possible transparency and involvement of the citizens. I would like to emphasize once again that we only want to achieve the best for Jena's citizens by improving the cycle path network and protecting younger road users in particular. Last but not least, the expansion of the cycle path network is also an active contribution to climate protection,

says Gerlitz. Accordingly, the administration continues to seek dialog with environmental and transport associations as well as with Jena's citizens.
