Successful start to the promotion of balcony power plants
On 2 November 2022, Jena became the first municipality in Thuringia to launch a funding program for photovoltaic systems. "The people of Jena have got the message!" was one of the many national reactions. The city is subsidizing small plug-in systems with an output of up to 600 watts, known as balcony power plants, with a total of 100,000 euros. They can simply be connected to the domestic power grid.
"Just one day after the funding guideline came into force, we were able to accept the numerous applications. In the ten days since the funding program was published, we have received 250 applications. This shows the high level of interest from tenants and owners in self-consumed solar power," says Christian Gerlitz (Mayor and Head of Department for Urban Development and the Environment).
This means that funding lot 1 has probably already been exhausted, which means that further applications in this funding lot can only be accepted as latecomers.
In contrast, further applications can still be submitted for funding lot 2, the increased funding (75%) for Jenabonus beneficiaries (recipients of social welfare, unemployment benefit 2, housing benefit, BaföG etc.). The funding pot allows for many more grants of up to €600.
Especially with this increased subsidy rate, the investment pays for itself after just a few years, when self-generated electricity can be used free of charge during the day. All information and the application form can be found on the city's website at www.jena.de/solarstrom.(link is external)
