Tatzendpromenade to be completely upgraded
From Monday, July 15, 2019, the ground-up expansion of the Tatzendpromenade will begin. The city of Jena, the JenaWasser special-purpose association and Stadtwerke Jena Netze are working together to improve the road's infrastructure. The upgrade will also improve the connection to the new ZEISS site.
The first construction phase begins at Gustav-Fischer-Straße and ends in the middle of Berthold-Koch-Platz. The road is expected to be fully closed until June 2020.
Extensive construction work will be carried out. This includes the renewal of the combined sewer, drinking water pipe, district water pipe, gas pipe, information technology and telecommunications cable. The 2nd construction phase will begin in July 2020 in the middle of Berthold-Koch-Patz and end at the Lichtenhainer Straße/Oberweg junction. This construction phase can then be carried out with half-side closures. Overall completion is scheduled for November 2020.
The carriageway of the Tatzendpromenade will be constructed with a standard width of 6.50 m and in sections with an additional asphalt cycle lane. The sidewalks on both sides will be constructed with concrete paving. The 4.50 m wide footpaths are open to cyclists. In the area of the 2.50 m wide footpath, the cycle lane will be created in the carriageway. In the area of the pedestrian crossings, central islands will be installed for a separate crossing. They will be designed to be barrier-free with directional fields, detection and accompanying strips.
The street lighting will also be completely renewed with modern LED lights. Trees will be planted on both sides of the Tatzendpromenade. Deutsche Telekom is also laying new cables.
During the construction period, access to the properties by vehicle cannot always be guaranteed. Pedestrian access to the properties will be permanently maintained in the construction area.
During this period, the Beutenberg bus routes of the Jena public transport system will be diverted via Otto-Schott-Straße, where the replacement bus stops are also located. Unfortunately, parking facilities will be restricted during this construction period. To relieve through traffic, a large-scale traffic routing will be implemented within the city area.
The contractor, Streicher, will be distributing accompanying letters to residents' letterboxes.
