Thanks to the election workers

05.09.2024

The city of Jena would like to thank the approximately 1,200 volunteers who ensured that the state election went smoothly on Sunday. Many of the helpers had already been involved in the elections in early summer and were therefore able to carry out their tasks with a great deal of experience. However, there were also some newcomers who were working at an election for the first time. Thanks to the good preparatory work in the previous weeks and the good support of the electoral boards on election day, almost everything worked perfectly on election Sunday, according to Chief Electoral Officer Matthias Bettenhäuser and his deputy Diana Kölbel. Around 650 electoral assistants even worked on all three election Sundays this year. Bettenhäuser and Kölbel also thanked the numerous employees of the city administration for their great commitment in the various areas of background logistics on election Sunday.

The teams in the ballot box and postal voting districts had counted the ballot papers, in some cases well before 11 pm. "This is an outstanding team performance - also in view of the fact that a total of 26,511 election letters were received," said Bettenhäuser. Anyone who wants to be there again next time can already make a note of the Bundestag elections in their diary: The election will be held on September 28, 2025.
