Transformer delivered to KSJ depot
Kommunalservice Jena is pressing ahead with the conversion of the energy network and charging infrastructure at the depot at Löbstedter Straße 68 as planned. Following the last update on the project on September 19, 2025, the latest information on construction progress and the next steps is now available.
The civil engineering work started on September 22, 2025 and the cable trench was closed again as planned on October 1, 2025. From October 6, 2025, work continued in the area of the weighbridge and the main access road. In this section, the conditions were created for laying the trunk cables to the transformer station. At times, this resulted in half-sided closures of the main access road as well as restrictions on weighing operations.
An important milestone has now been reached with the delivery of the new transformer - a cast resin dry-type transformer weighing around 3.5 tons. In the next step, the construction of the low-voltage distribution boards and the installation of the medium-voltage system are both scheduled for February 2026. Commissioning of the new systems is currently scheduled for March 2026. The project managers would like to expressly thank all employees for their patience and understanding during the ongoing work at the depot.
Other projects have been launched in parallel with the network conversion: The tender for four all-electric waste collection vehicles - two drum vehicles and two compactor vehicles - has been issued. Procurement of the vehicles is planned for 2026. In addition, further expansion of the charging infrastructure at the depot is planned. Further information on this project will follow in due course.
