Tree felling and safety measures on the Saale river
On Monday, 18.03.2024 and Wednesday, 20.03.2024, a willow that has already fallen over will be cleared and another willow felled in the green area on Wenigenjenaer Ufer in dry weather. One of the willows had already fallen over in winter and has been lying on the adjacent group of willows ever since. In order to prevent further damage, this tree must be cleared. Due to the damage to the group of willows caused by the fall, individual stems of this group must be shortened.
In addition to the group of trees, another willow tree shows intensive fungal infestation at the base of the trunk. Due to the already advanced decomposition of the wood, this tree is in acute danger of breaking. It must be felled to prevent breakage damage and danger.
Due to the high water level of the Saale and the wet weather, it was not possible to carry out the necessary safety measures at an early stage. The steep slope to the Saale can only be safely navigated in dry conditions.
No nests or cavities were found during an inspection on March 14. A further inspection will be carried out in direct connection with the measures. The replacement planting will take place at the site.
