Two general rulings to combat avian influenza
Due to the outbreak of avian influenza in wild and domestic poultry in Thuringia, the Jena-Saale-Holzland Veterinary and Food Monitoring Office has issued two general rulings:
General ruling on confinement
The first regulates the compulsory confinement of poultry in designated ornithological risk areas along the Saale and Weiße Elster rivers. In Jena, this affects the districts of Kunitz, Löbstedt, Maua and the part of Zwätzen north of the Steinbach.
General ruling on poultry exhibitions and sales
The second general ruling concerns events with kept birds - such as poultry shows. These may continue to take place, but must meet certain requirements, such as being held in closed rooms. Further regulations concern, among other things, the health status of the animals as well as the purchase and sale of poultry.
