Vaccination appointments in Jena for children aged 5 to 11 can now be booked
Appointments for the children's vaccination center in Jena's Volkshaus can now be booked via the vaccination portal of the Thuringian Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians http://impfen-thueringen.de. Parents of children between the ages of 5 and 11 can now take advantage of a service centrally located in the city. The vaccination center will open on Thursday, 16 December 2021. Opening hours will be daily from 9 am to 7 pm. Vaccinations will also be possible on public holidays, Christmas and New Year's Eve, the exact times will be communicated.
Families can also have their children vaccinated there without an appointment. However, they should be there by 6.30 p.m. at the latest. A numbering system will be used to avoid long waiting times.
Virologist Christian Drosten also recommends the vaccination for children from the age of 5: "I can only advise having children vaccinated; because of the school run, because of the risk of getting sick yourself, also with a view to South Africa, if it turns out to be true that the course of the disease is more severe in children."
Mayor Gerlitz is very happy about the new opportunity: "Many families have been waiting for a long time for younger children to be able to take advantage of vaccination opportunities. The incidence among primary school children in Jena today is 2,444, more than ten times higher than among 65 to 80-year-olds. That is why it is so important for us to contribute to safe schooling by offering vaccinations to children between the ages of 5 and 11 as quickly as possible."
