What do Jena residents think about dignity?
Exhibition in the Thuringian State Parliament starts on 27.09.2023
What does dignity mean? People from different walks of life, professions and age groups have addressed this question. The "Würdemenschen" project was launched by artist Jörg Amonat together with numerous associations and institutions. In 2019, Amonat, who was born in Erfurt, started the project with participants in Jena. The results were exhibited in the town church at the time.
"I became aware of Jena through Friedrich Schiller's essay 'On Grace and Dignity', which he wrote and published there in 1793," says Amonat. The lively city partnership with Erlangen then led him to continue the project there.
In workshops, group and individual discussions, the participants dealt with their everyday experiences of dignity and developed texts for their personal dignity plaque. In addition, a photographic self-image was created that shows how the individual sees themselves with dignity. 84 of these panels are presented in the current exhibition in the Thuringian State Parliament.
