Workshop committee on Eichplatz met again

04.03.2020

The history of the workshop committee

In 2015, the establishment of the workshop committee for the further development of the Eichplatz area marked the start of a unique participation process for the city of Jena. Whether the "10 principles", the urban development framework plan, the planning idea for the "New City Garden" or the evaluation matrix for the investor selection process for construction site A - the workshop committee was significantly involved in all of these important decisions.

New places were allocated

For very different reasons, some members of the committee were no longer able to remain actively involved in the process. However, in order to be able to hold discussions with a representative cross-section of the Jena population in the future, 28 new seats had to be filled. For this reason, 2,000 people were identified using statistical indicators and invited to join the workshop committee. As significantly more people accepted this invitation than there were places to be filled, the decision had to be made by drawing lots based on gender and age.

Focus on construction site B

Last weekend, the newly appointed workshop committee met for two events. On Friday, the new members were informed in detail about the work of the last four years by representatives of the administration, experienced members who have been involved since 2015 and external experts. On Saturday, after a presentation on the current status of the award procedure for construction site A, work began on the content of construction site B. During the discussions, it became clear that, for example, more information from the plans for the first construction site was needed to determine certain types of use. In order to compile this technical information with sufficient time, the workshop committee will hold its next meeting at the end of April.
